Today, the World Customs Organization (WCO) announced the election of Ian Saunders as its next Secretary General. As Secretary General, Saunders will lead the only intergovernmental body whose mission is to enhance the effectiveness of customs administrations worldwide.

In recognition of Saunders’ successful election, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo issued the following statement:

“Congratulations to Ian Saunders on his election to serve as Secretary General of the World Customs Organization. Saunders’ election reflects a broad endorsement by the international customs community of his vision to bring transparency, responsiveness and innovation in his approach to solving the pressing challenges faced by the global customs community.
