Today, Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo welcomed Mathias Cormann, the Secretary General of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) to Washington, D.C., to discuss the digital economy and the importance of ensuring robust cross-border data flows built on our shared data privacy values. Specifically, they discussed the implementation of the 2022 OECD Declaration on Government Access to Personal Data Held by Private Sector Entities. They also discussed how to promote trust in cross-border data flows and ways to ensure member countries adhere to the Declaration’s principles. Secretary Raimondo underscored her support of OECD as a critical multilateral forum for collaboration on the development of an open, inclusive, and secure digital economy and increased economic prosperity around the globe.
