Austin, TX (Law Firm Newswire) April 11, 2022 – An 84-year-old man and his 81-year-old wife were killed recently on U.S. 69 near Warren, Texas. A 2001 Chevrolet SUV crossed over into the northbound lane and crashed into a 2017 Ford passenger vehicle, hitting it head-on.
Both vehicle occupants were declared dead at the scene. The driver of the SUV was transported to the nearest medical facility for treatment. Head-on collisions are typically deadly, but those who survive may deal with serious physical issues for a long time after the crash.
The most common injuries that occur in a head-on collision include the following:
• Traumatic Brain Injury
• Neck and Back Injuries
• Spinal Cord Injuries that may result in Paralysis
• Crush Injuries
• Burn Injuries
• Internal Organ Damage
Head-on collisions happen for different reasons, but the most common is another vehicle crossing the centerline. The reasons can include:
• Driving while impaired by drugs or alcohol
• Road Rage
• Distracted Driving
• Fatigued Driver
• Reckless Driving
• Running Traffic Signals
• Driving at night with reduced visibility
• Unsafe Lane Changes
• Inexperienced Driver (Teenager)
“If you can reach your cellphone or one of your passengers can after the crash, call the police, and remain at the scene. Ask for copies of the crash report. Dictate a voice to text message to yourself about the details of the accident. Send it to a friend or yourself. Try to take pictures with your cellphone,” suggested Austin car accident attorney, Brooks Schuelke, not involved in this case.
In most vehicle collisions, it is standard to get the other driver’s personal information, such as name, address, phone number, license plate number, and name of insurance agency.
“This may not be possible if you are too badly injured to move or cannot get out of your vehicle. Just do what you can do given the circumstances of your accident,” added Schuelke. “Do try to call the insurance company as soon as possible to tell them about the collision–if it is possible to do so.”
