Northville, MI (Law Firm Newswire) March 17, 2021 – The Department of Veterans Affairs has been creating an actionable plan for distributing the COVID-19 vaccine. It works in conjunction with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other federal agencies.

The plan will be structured in phases, as the vaccine itself will likely be released and allocated in this way. Experts used scientific and historical data from past pandemics and input from VA officials, science experts in and out of the VA, and veterans at the community-level.

“When sufficient vaccine for COVID is finally available, we will need structured and well-informed plans in place already to ensure that veterans who would like to receive one are able,” said James G. Fausone, lead attorney at Legal Help for Veterans in Northville, Michigan. “The most at-risk veterans will be able to get the vaccine first and then others as more becomes available. The hope is that this plan will take something that is chaotic by nature and make distributing it as smooth and effective as possible.”

The VA consulted experts in ethics, health equity, infectious disease, logistics, pandemic planning, pharmacy and public health and those in change management, clinicians from various disciplines, data, education, IT, safety and training when making the plan. It also conducted multiple listening sessions for real feedback on the planning process from veterans in different communities.
