Austin, TX (Law Firm Newswire) April 20, 2020 – Recently, a 45-year-old Texas woman died in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 290 near McAcres Drive.

According to accident reports, the victim was heading westbound in a 2015 Ford when it crossed into the eastbound lane, colliding with a 2019 Toyota Tacoma.

When first responders arrived on the scene, the Ford driver was pronounced dead, and the driver of the Toyota was taken to the nearest medical facility in Austin. The accident report noted that the road was wet at the time of the collision.

In 2018, there were 1.29 deaths per hundred million vehicle miles traveled, which is a 5.84 percent drop from 2017. The 2018 death toll in Texas was 3,639 deaths, a 2.36 percent drop from 2017 when there were 3,727 deaths reported. Five hundred and forty-eight people were killed in head-on crashes in 2018, and not one single day passed without a fatality on Texas roadways.

Crash data from 2018 indicates that one person dies every 2 hours and 25 minutes, and a crash happens every 58 seconds. “While that’s an improvement, there is still a long way to go to reduce the number of deadly car accidents across the state,” said Brooks Schuelke, an Austin car accident lawyer, not involved in this accident case.

Texas car crash statistics are cause for great concern. These numbers are a clear indication that state officials, police and drivers need to implement increased caution and alertness. Police and the state government are working to raise awareness of Texas accident statistics in the hopes that drivers will be more cautious.

Distracted driving is a massive concern in the state. Operating a vehicle needs the full attention and focus of the driver. All drivers need to keep their eyes on the roadway, hands on the wheel and refrain from other distractions, like cellphones. “Someone’s life could depend on you driving safely. Do not drive while distracted or under the influence. You may not make it out alive of any crash you may cause,” added Schuelke.

For those that have been involved in a car accident and were seriously injured or their family member died in a car crash, reach out and discuss the case with an experienced car accident attorney. “You need to know your legal rights and how to file a lawsuit to seek compensation,” Schuelke indicated.
