Miami, FL (Law Firm Newswire) April 5, 2017 – On the night of Wednesday, March 8, a woman from New York was killed in a hit-and-run collision near Orlando, Florida.

As reported in the Orlando Sentinel, Karissa Hilts was struck by a vehicle on Florida Turnpike near Mile Marker 258 in Orange County. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, as she was headed south on the turnpike, a cellphone fell out of her car. She pulled over on the highway, and exited her vehicle to search for the phone. Right after she stepped onto the turnpike, a motorist drove by and struck Hilts, who died at the scene. She was 29-years-old.

Following the collision, the motorist then fled the scene. One day later, Florida. troopers made an announcement that a damaged van that met the description of the driver’s vehicle had been located.

Hilts had been employed as a kitchen manager at “R” Diner, which is owned by her mother, Robin. Hilts was recognized as an accomplished cook.

Furthermore drivers who flee the scene of an accident could face revocation of their license under the Aaron Cohen Life Protection Act.
