Endo International Ceases Vaginal Mesh Production in Wake of Costly Lawsuits — Injury Lawyer Bobby Lee

May 18, 2016

Austin, TX (Law Firm Newswire) May 18, 2016 – In an ugly twist of fate, products touted as being the best on the market to deal with pelvic organ prolapse (POP) and stress urinary incontinence (SUI), caused irreparable harm to women it was allegedly designed to help. Millions of dollars paid out in settlements and legal costs result in Endo stopping production of transvaginal meshes to treat POP and vaginal slings to treat SUI.

Endo shuttered its Astora Women’s Health device unit in March 2016 to reduce potential liability relating to over 46,000 severe adverse reaction lawsuits allegedly caused by their products. It appears their move to shut down that side of production followed on the heels of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recommending the approval of a new mesh device to treat fecal incontinence. Endo had intentions to sell that product through their women’s health unit.

“One has to wonder what the FDA was thinking when other mesh products catastrophically failed and caused great harm to women,” said out Austin injury lawyer Bobby Lee. “What proof were they considering when they indicated they may give the nod to a fecal incontinence mesh product?” Mesh implants have proven to a disastrous to thousands of women faced with living in pain every day of their lives. There are over 140,000 transvaginal mesh lawsuits in the United States alone.

Despite the ever-increasing number of lawsuits being filed against various manufacturers of transvaginal mesh products and juries awarding large settlements, Endo insists they are safe and effective. Legal pundits suggest that in time, all makers of this type of product will cease production in the face of incontrovertible proof of the harm they cause, while at the same time not admitting liability for the part they played.

For women who have recently had a transvaginal mesh implant or for women who have been struggling with the side effects of mesh implants, it is important to reach out to an attorney with experience in handling these kinds of cases. “My door is open to you, and we are your advocates in seeking appropriate, fair and equitable compensation for your pain and suffering,” said Lee.

  • Emily Agirre dies in head-on collision with impaired driver
Despite the fact that everyone does know it is not safe to drink and drive, people still do it. This was one of those cases where an individual chose to drink to excess and then also chose to get behind the wheel of his black Ford F-150. Jose Alvarez and Emily Agirre were traveling west on Atascocita Road around 11:20 p.m. when the car they were riding in was hit head-on by Rodrigo Cornejo. His truck, heading east, suddenly veered in front of the little red two-door Hyundai. Agirre and Alvarez were transported in critical condition to hospital. Agirre died […]
  • Eight people capsized while riding a boat, three drowned
On Sunday, March 6, eight people were on a boat that capsized in Corpus Christi Bay. A four-year-old boy was alive when pulled from the waters, but died later in hospital. Two other bodies were recovered several days later and were identified as Mario Leon and his 13-year-old daughter. There were five survivors of this devastating accident. One survivor, Mrs. Leon, was able to help rescuers narrow the search area by leading them to the area where the 18-foot boat capsized after being hit by an unexpected storm. Accidents like this are devastating to everyone involved, including those who volunteered […]
  • Wrong-way driver kills four
I-35 in Kyle, Texas, was the recent scene of a deadly crash caused by a wrong-way driver. Death paid a call to four individuals in a van. Those killed were Canadians — the driver of the vehicle, a father, mother and their 16-month-old son. Rene Molinares was driving erratically on the highway and prompted several drivers to call 911. Police were dispatched, but they were not able to get there in time to stop him. The 22-year-old had already collided with a truck and a van. Emergency first responders knew when they got to the scene that there would be several […]
  • Wrong-way crashes are on the rise in Texas
Austin has seen a spate of wrong-way crashes over the last few months, moving Texas up to the top of the list of states leading the way in the statistics for such collisions. The cause is baffling the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), and they are in the middle of conducting two research projects with the goal of decreasing the number of deaths. According to TxDOT, there were 185 wrong-way crashes in San Antonio in 2011, and seven fatal accidents. Eighty percent of wrong-way accidents were between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., and 72 percent of wrong-way driving incidents happened […]
  • Grieving father creates PSA pleading drivers to put down their phones
Austin Ardman, a 20-year-old college student, was jogging in College Station last December when he was hit and killed by a distracted driver. The woman admitted to police she had been texting when the accident happened. Neal’s dad has created a public service announcement (PSA) to reach as many people as he can and warn them about texting while driving. Simply put, his message is “Put down the phone. We’re killing people senselessly.” All around us while we are on the road driving, we see people texting and talking despite the well-known consequences — severe injuries or death. Ardman wants […]
