Colony Investments VIII is a private fund that was launched in 2007 by Colony Capital LLC, which manages billions of dollars of investor money in approximately 16 funds. The investigation concerns losses incurred by Colony Investments VIII. Bloomberg News reported that Colony Investments VIII suffered a 60% loss, and cited several failed real estate developments. The failures included an $8.5 billion buyout of Station Casinos Inc. which at the time was the largest gaming company to go bankrupt, and the $2 billion Meadowlands Xanadu retail and entertainment complex project.
