Crucifix Crushes Man’s Leg, Resulting in Amputation

Jan 11, 2013

Southfield, MI (Law Firm Newswire) January 10, 2013 – Despite the serene setting of this accident, a man lost his leg after being crushed by a 600-pound crucifix.

“This accident was horrendous, and the man who lay pinned under a 600-pound cross, endured significant agony until EMS units arrived to rescue him. His leg was badly crushed, and on arrival at the hospital, despite a full team of surgeons fighting to save his leg, it was amputated,” recounted Darren Monroe of Litigation Funding Corporation, Michigan.

As a result of this accident, the man is suing the church where he was cleaning the crucifix. In his statement of claim, he indicated the accident has resulted in astronomical medical bills and his life will never be the same again. He is seeking $3 million from the court. The church insists it is not liable for the accident, and have been raising money to help pay the family’s expenses.

The man was cleaning the statute as a show of gratitude for his wife surviving ovarian cancer in 2008. During the period of time when she was in treatment, he would come to the church and pray in front of the massive crucifix, pray for a cure for his wife. His prayers were answered.

While working on the crucifix, the man grasped one of the cross’s beams to maintain his balance, wiping Christ’s face with soapy water. At that moment, the crucifix snapped off its base. On inspection later, it turned out there was just one lone screw holding the 600-pound statue in place; hardly making it safe and secure. The case will be tried early in the New Year.

“Even though the man and his family were receiving charitable donations from the church, he would not be able to deal with his six-figure medical bills, and still pay his usual bills, like his rent and food. He may want to check into applying for litigation funding, also referred to as a lawsuit loan – emergency money sent to a qualified plaintiff, in advance of a settlement or jury verdict,” suggested Monroe.

Lawsuit loans may be applied for online or by phone, and the process is easy. The plaintiff provides full case details and the name of the lawyer handling the file. The case is then evaluated, based on the chances of it winning in court. Once approved, the fast cash lawsuit loan is sent within 48-hours or less, directly to the plaintiff’s bank. If the case is lost in court, the plaintiff gets to keep the lawsuit funding, with no strings attached.
