Miami, FL (Law Firm Newswire) April 17, 2014 – Many Americans feel Obamacare is built on lies, resulting in a fiasco. Now, the need to push through immigration reform has taken on a note of desperation.
“It’s interesting to note that many Americans feel they got ‘had’ when it comes to Obamacare. And now, it seems the Democrats are pushing immigration reform to happen soon. Now the President says it’s time to allow immigrants to fulfill their dreams, for Republicans to do the right thing. Really? If anyone else gets the sense this is a shell game, or diversionary tactic, you’re not alone,” comments Larry Rifkin, a Miami immigration lawyer and managing partner at Rifkin & Fox-Isicoff, with law offices in Miami, Florida and Orlando, Florida.
The State of the Union address contained a reference to making the country a more attractive place for businesses to set up and create jobs by granting legal status to undocumented immigrants. If that is indeed the unvarnished truth, then why did immigration reform get mysteriously shelved when the Democrats were a majority in both houses of Congress? And why has this administration deported over 2 million undocumented aliens?
“Does anyone recall that when Obama was a senator, he was the key figure behind stamping out immigration reform in the Bush administration? He voted to ditch a reform bill by halting the expansion of a guest worker program. No guest worker program, no support for immigration reform from businesses and Republicans,” says Rifkin.
And now? Obama is saying it is crucial to pass immigration reform and that he aims to achieve that goal anyway he can. This refrain is an old song that hangs on in everyone’s memory, but never goes any further to become a best seller on the hit parade. Additionally, when a president speaks from two difference sides of the same coin, it should make everyone wonder if that individual is trustworthy enough to carry through with their promises. So far, the answer appears to be “No.”
It remains a fact that the immigration system is broken. However, given the shenanigans in Washington, D.C., it’s doubtful there is a meaningful resolution to the issue. What is next? No one knows. Some no longer care. The state of the union is hardly cohesive and trustworthy.
