Attorney and Author Michael Gilfix to Speak on Special Needs Trusts

Mar 14, 2014

Palo Alto, CA (Law Firm Newswire) March 14, 2014 – Families with a disabled child, parent or other relative face incredibly difficult challenges. They struggle to ensure that their disabled loved one lives a happy and comfortable life. As such, parents especially worry about how their disabled child’s needs will be met after they are gone.

A special needs trust is a powerful estate planning tool that may provide peace of mind to any family struggling with these issues.

On Wednesday, April 2, 2014, Gilfix and La Poll Associates presents the 10th Annual Community Special Needs Trust Seminar. Nationally recognized expert, author and attorney Michael Gilfix is slated explain and review how these trusts work.

The Community Seminar is cosponsored by several non-profit organizations, including the Morgan Autism Center, Pacific Autism Center for Education, Institute on Aging, Parents Helping Parents and Life Services Alternatives, among others. These organizations plan to be on hand with further information for seminar attendees.

Michael Gilfix is the author of a well-known tome on the subject of special needs trusts, “Special Needs Trust Creation and Management Guide.” Copies of the book will be available for all seminar guests. In the guide and in person, Gilfix presents his subject matter in a sophisticated, yet highly approachable and understandable manner.

“A special needs trust is often the ideal legal vehicle for assuring that disabled individuals are provided with a lifetime financial safety net, because, among other reasons, it does not compromise eligibility for government benefits,” Gilfix explained. “Indeed, assets within a special needs trust are not counted when eligibility for government programs, such as Supplemental Security Income and Medi-Cal, are determined.”

Gilfix, whose law office is located in Palo Alto, California, also points out that the government-sponsored benefits system is often inadequate to provide for the needs of disabled individuals. Special needs trusts are often vital to bridge the gap and cover expenses.

The Community Special Needs Trust Seminar is to be held twice on April 2, 2014: once from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., and again from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. To register, visit www.Gilfix.com or call (650) 493-8070.
