Defective Hip Implants Spur Growing Lawsuits, Noted Personal Injury Lawyer

May 11, 2013

Waxahachie, TX (Law Firm Newswire) May 10, 2013 – A Texas resident who received two different defective hip implants filed a suit against the manufacturer.

A lawsuit was filed against Stryker Orthopaedics in New Jersey Superior Court in February 2013. The suit alleges that the two Stryker hip implants the man received caused him serious injury and were defective.

“This is not the first case facing Stryker Orthopaedics,” noted Waxahachie personal injury attorney John Hale. Numerous patients have alleged that there were complications experienced after receiving the Rejuvenate and Stryker ABG II due to defective issues; the lawsuits have been collected in New Jersey into “multicounty litigation.”

The man who received two defective implants first had a total replacement of his right hip in 2010, due to arthritis and osteonecrosis. He stated that he believed the Stryker ABG II was the right choice for him due to his relatively young age and need for what was then considered a durable replacement hip. In 2011, he had another total replacement for his left hip, and was implanted with another Stryker ABG II. But just months after the surgery, the man reported implant site pain and experienced difficulty walking.

Stryker issued a recall in 2012 of the ABG II and Rejuvenate after receiving a number of reports of corrosion of the device, leading to hip implant failure. By the time of the recall, the Texas man’s lawsuit indicates that his doctors were concerned about metalloais —- a tissue reaction to heavy metals in the bloodstream. The right hip implant was removed in October 2012, followed by months of intense physical therapy; his left hip implant was removed in early 2013. His wife has claimed that due to his pain, surgeries and grueling physical therapy, she had to stop working to fill the role as his caretaker. She has joined his lawsuit, filing a claim for loss of consortium.

Any individual can contact their surgeon to obtain information on if they received a recalled Stryker ABG II or Rejuvenate hip implant, or can order the information from their hospital medical records to obtain the implant’s product identification information.
