Hit-and-Run Incidents in Illinois Inflict Serious Harm

Aug 27, 2011

Chicago, IL (Law Firm Newswire) August 26, 2011 – Hit-and-run accidents are raising some serious concerns in Illinois in the last couple of months. Police are investigating a hit-and-run crash from late July that killed a teen from Lake Zurich and injured two of her friends as they were walking to the Alpine Fest in Lions Park. Police have narrowed the search to an Astro or Safari van from pieces of it found at the scene.

In Chicago, a young girl was hit by a vehicle at dusk in her neighborhood. Paramedics came to the scene and took her to Comer Children’s Hospital for bruises and lacerations. Then on the Dan Ryan Expressway, an off-duty sheriff’s deputy was seriously injured when a truck sideswiped his motorcycle. State police said the officer suffered bumps, scrapes, and a broken rib after being flung onto the roadway.

“Hit and run crashes are tragic events that happen far too often,” said Chicago car accident attorney Paul A. Greenberg, Esq. “We will do everything in our power with the help of the authorities to find the driver who caused the harm and take legal action against the guilty party.”

In the latest annual statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), more than 2,600 people died in hit-and-run accidents. These types of crashes are on the increase, officials say. This in tandem with the increase of underinsured and uninsured motorists on the road creates a tragic situation.

“These types of accidents cause serious injuries, emotional trauma, and affect a loved one’s family and friends,” said Greenberg.
